In the heart of the Prosecco hills: a journey through flavours, landscapes and traditions

Prosecco Hills: UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Prosecco Hills: A UNESCO World Heritage Gem of Wine, History, and Breathtaking Landscapes

The Prosecco Hills are located in Veneto, in north-eastern Italy, between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the province of Treviso. This unique landscape is famous for the production of Prosecco Superiore DOCG, one of the most popular sparkling wines in the world.

Since 2019, the Prosecco Hills have been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for their cultural, landscape and agricultural value. The area is characterised by terraced vineyards, steep slopes and small historic villages, the result of a long winemaking tradition dating back to the Middle Ages.

In addition to wine, the area also offers nature trails, quality food and wine, and a harmonious landscape shaped by man's work in symbiosis with nature.

Prosecco and Wines Route of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills

The Prosecco and Wines of the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Hills Route, established in 2003, is the successor to the White Wine Route, inaugurated back in 1966, Italy's first wine route.

Large sections of that historic route have now been revived, but three other routes have been added to enhance the entire area, its diverse wine-growing landscapes and the many attractions, including historical and artistic ones, scattered throughout the hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.

The history along the Prosecco route...

Vittorio Veneto: art, culture and fine wine

Nestled among the Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, Vittorio Veneto perfectly combines history, nature and wine culture. Also known for being the scene of a decisive battle during the First World War, today the city is a reference point for lovers of wine tourism and good food.

Its territory offers wineries, farmhouses and food and wine trails that allow visitors to discover local delicacies, including Prosecco Superiore DOCG, produced with Glera grapes grown in the area's picturesque terraced vineyards.

Vittorio Veneto is therefore not only a city rich in history and architectural beauty, but also an authentic and fascinating stop along the Prosecco Route, ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in the culture and flavours of the Veneto region.

Conegliano: the birthplace of Prosecco

Conegliano is a beautiful town in the Veneto region in the province of Treviso, recognised as one of the capitals of Prosecco, located at the beginning of the famous Prosecco and Colli Conegliano Valdobbiadene Wine Route, the first wine route established in Italy (1966).

Nestled among rolling hills embroidered with vineyards, Conegliano is the birthplace of the famous Prosecco Superiore DOCG, thanks to an ideal climate and a winemaking tradition that dates back centuries.

In addition to its wine-making vocation, Conegliano offers a charming historic centre dominated by the Castle, with splendid panoramic views, frescoed palaces and a welcoming atmosphere. It is a lively city, rich in cultural events, festivals and events related to the world of wine.

Treviso: the secret Venice

Treviso, capital of the Veneto province of the same name, is a refined and charming city, often referred to as ‘little Venice’ for its canals, bridges and cobbled streets that criss-cross a picturesque and lively historic centre.

Located in the heart of the Prosecco DOC area, Treviso is a strategic and cultural hub for exploring the hilly territory that stretches towards Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although not at the centre of wine production like the surrounding hills, the city is closely linked to the culture of wine and Venetian food and wine.

With its frescoed palaces, medieval walls, markets and taverns, Treviso is a city of art and taste, combining elegance and authenticity, making it an ideal base for those who want to discover the beauty of Veneto and the tradition of Prosecco.
